Idea:

544 Merrimack St has a vacant first floor retail space that was once Vogue II Hair Salon. All of the equipment is still there. I want to work with the property owners and hair stylist to pull it off! Yuletide Market

Idea:

An idea I think that would thrive in Downtown Lowell is creating a Yuletide Market. The first or second weekend in December, close down Middle Street or another spot in downtown Lowell, with the cute cobblestone roads, and invite all the vendors from Western Ave. Brush Arts etc. and have mulled wine and hot chocolate [Read more…]

Benefit:

Downtown Lowell in the winter is so cute time with all the lights, wreaths, and old brick buildings, I think if this is done right, it could turn into a holiday destination in MA.

How to Fix Bus Stop Signs

Idea:

I saw this video and thought it would make an interesting and beneficial project for Lowell. LINK to video is here. The video is called “How to Fix Bus Stop Signs: Uytae Lee’s Stories About Here” from CBC-Vancouver on Youtube. The gist of it was zip-tying poster board signs to bus stops, but the signage would include [Read more…]

Outdoor Cinema Wall

Idea:

Paint the side of a building outdoor projector screen paint to create a fixture that can be used by anyone for an outdoor movie night.  In addition, create an outdoor home theater cinema projector that people can enjoy. This could somehow be open for use in theft-proof boxes. This could be borrowed/rented by people over [Read more…]

Create community gatherings around movie nights or watching sporting events together.

Nintendo Nights

Idea:

Put together a weekly or monthly series of events where people can bring picnic food (or we invite food trucks and get an alcohol permit for a beer garden if we’re ambitious) and there are one or two projectors set up in a locked case hooked up to old video games. They can eat and [Read more…]

Benefit:

Would help revitalize a park and bring people together. If it was advertised, maybe people would come from out of town to experience this unique Lowell idea.

Card to Culture

We are proud to participate in Mass Cultural Council's Card to Culture program in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Public Health's WIC Nutrition Program, the Massachusetts Health Connector, and hundreds of organizations by making cultural programming accessible to those for whom cost is a participation barrier.

Most DIY Lowell annual events are free, but often have a suggested donation. No donation is suggested for EBT, WIC, or ConnectorCare cardholders. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.

Special Thanks

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Lowell Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. We also express our sincere gratitude to our Cornerstone Partners:
