Idea:

Build a movable floating sculpture that would skim off and collect the trash floating in the canals and/or the rivers around the city of Lowell. Benefit:

It would look cool and clean the waters at the same time! It would benefit wildlife and the environment as well as our tourist industry. I think it’s kind of obvious what the benefits would be.

Location:

Citywide, OldIdea.

“Before I die…”

Idea:

Choose a large public space/wall, perhaps empty/abandoned buildings or fences. Paint the wall with blackboard paint. Have chalk available. People write one sentence: “Before I die I want to…” (fill in the blank).

Reduce the stigma of talking about death, opportunity for self-expression, increases awareness of others' thoughts…

Location:

Don't Know, OldIdea.

We are proud to participate in Mass Cultural Council's Card to Culture program in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Public Health's WIC Nutrition Program, the Massachusetts Health Connector, and hundreds of organizations by making cultural programming accessible to those for whom cost is a participation barrier.

Most DIY Lowell annual events are free, but often have a suggested donation. No donation is suggested for EBT, WIC, or ConnectorCare cardholders. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.

This program is supported in part by a grant from MassHumanities; in part by the City of Lowell; and in part by the following Comet-level sponsors:
