Lowell Wheelie Bike and Skateboard Competition

Idea:

Have an BMX / Skateboard competition event to see who can pop a wheelie the longest. Set up different age group competitions. Give out trophies and cash prizes. Do it at South Common or one of the skate parks around Lowell.. Maybe bring in a DJ and some food trucks.
Benefit:

It would be a fun positive event for our youth and could attract a big crowd of participants and fans. This could include advance materials and safety tips to show where it’s safe and positive to practice bike tricks (and discourage practicing bike tricks on busy streets).

Lowell Women Together

Idea:

Someone cuts out a large profile of a woman (from plywood or a strong cardboard?). Then it’s cut into puzzle pieces. People take a piece and paint/color/collage/write on it any way they want (including the color purple somewhere in the design). Then we have a big puzzle putting-together party and assemble. Make Your Own Mill Girl Doll

Idea:

An artist or community member builds a large Lowell Dollhouse: model of a boarding house or of a mill. We then come together to have an event where kids can come, make their own mill girl doll, and then place it in the dollhouse or play together with the dolls and dollhouse. It could be [Read more…]

Benefit:

It would give families something to do together and kids would learn more about Lowell's history. It would be a fun thing to do. We could advertise it to kids inside and outside the city of many ages. (This idea came from a kid!)

Max Solar on LHS

Idea:

Educate folks on solar/green energy and how the new high school is contributing to green building. The Lowell Sustainability Council team along with DIY will collaborate with others to achieve the maximum possible solar production on the new LHS building(s).
