DIY Movie – A Pop-Up Film Production

Idea:

A movie production where everyone can participate! We set a date and write a short script for a five-minute film. We publicly advertise the date, and anyone who wants to take part comes that day and takes on roles of film production. Cameraman, director, actors, audience, stage crew, etc. We would make sure to have [Read more…]

Benefit:

Come together as community, people learn new skills in a fun way, activate and bring attention to an unused space, maybe be multilingual to reflect Lowell's diversity, and we have a five-minute video as a memento to share and promote Lowell's creativity.

Location:

Citywide, OldIdea.

World-Record Pie Fight

Idea:

We set a goal for a word-record breaking pie fight (more than 1,186 people) with smocks and at least one whip-cream pie to throw for every attendant. Could take place in a central park or plaza – anywhere with access to water to hose off afterward.

Benefit:

Many ages and people from different backgrounds come together over something we can all agree on: throwing pies is fun. Plenty of opportunity to visit local businesses afterward.

Location:

Don't Know, OldIdea.

We are proud to participate in Mass Cultural Council's Card to Culture program in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Public Health's WIC Nutrition Program, the Massachusetts Health Connector, and hundreds of organizations by making cultural programming accessible to those for whom cost is a participation barrier.

Most DIY Lowell annual events are free, but often have a suggested donation. No donation is suggested for EBT, WIC, or ConnectorCare cardholders. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.

This program is supported in part by a grant from MassHumanities; in part by the City of Lowell; and in part by the following Comet-level sponsors:
