Wildlife Guide

Idea:

UMass Lowell students from the Evolution and Ecology Club are collaborating with Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust and community members to create a wildlife guide for Lowell wildlife. We all want to provide waterproof guides available for the community to take out during kayak/canoe trips on the Merrimack River through the UML Kayak Center.

Benefit:

Increase in wildlife knowledge and appreciation for the wildlife in and around Lowell. Education is key to conserving our species.

Window Art Project

Idea:

Turn empty downtown storefronts into temporary gallery space for Lowell based artists! It could be combined with an art-street-walk.

Benefit:

Our City would no longer look like an abandoned space. It will be more inviting to visitors to walk the streets.

Winter fun

Idea:

After a winter storm, allow sledding or cross-country skiing for a limited period of time on certain unplowed city streets or even alleyways. Safety would have to be paramount.

Benefit:

Winter sliding/skiing on (appropriate) city streets or public ways would bring people out of their homes during those short, cold winter days and into public areas to play and exercise together.

World-Record Pie Fight

Idea:

We set a goal for a word-record breaking pie fight (more than 1,186 people) with smocks and at least one whip-cream pie to throw for every attendant. Could take place in a central park or plaza – anywhere with access to water to hose off afterward.

Benefit:

Many ages and people from different backgrounds come together over something we can all agree on: throwing pies is fun. Plenty of opportunity to visit local businesses afterward.

Yuletide Market

Idea:

An idea I think that would thrive in Downtown Lowell is creating a Yuletide Market. Benefit:

Downtown Lowell in the winter is so cute time with all the lights, wreaths, and old brick buildings, I think if this is done right, it could turn into a holiday destination in MA.
