The 2024 Community Chill Night is DIY Lowell’s fifth annual chili and stew cook-off event! Experience music, games, community awards, and a DIY “Chilly” Dessert fun for everyone!
Our goal is to build community in Lowell by bringing together young people and elders, downtown and neighborhoods, townies and newcomers. This annual fundraiser celebrates the projects and events that have activated our underused spaces, brought diverse populations together, and made Lowell better.

The event is Friday, March 22, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the “Overlook” at Mill No. 5, Fifth Floor (250 Jackson Street).

Suggested donation of $10 per attendee in Advance, $15 the day of, and kids under 12 free. Prices are suggested donations, so donate as much or as little as you can–nobody will be turned away! If you pre-register, please let us know at the door the day of the event.
2024 Honorees
Volunteer of the Year Award
Mona Tyree was nominated because of her dedication to the Centralville Neighborhood and the Lowell community. Just to name a few, Mona was a founding member of the DEI-Lowell Consortium, is a member of the Afro-American Community Collaborative and a critical planner of the Juneteenth celebration, was on the Black Joy sculpture committee, and is a member of Enterprise Bank’s Multicultural Alliance. Our award is one of many! Mona was also recognized as a 2023 Martin Luther King Living the Dream Partners Award nominee and was honored with the first Mary Scott Mitchell Community Service Award.
Community Transformation Award
The Latinx Community Center for Empowerment, LCCE, stands as a beacon of change and progress in our community. Through its tireless efforts in education, workforce development, and civic engagement, LCCE has become a cornerstone for socioeconomic development. By empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed, LCCE not only transforms lives but also uplifts the entire community, fostering a culture of inclusivity, opportunity, and growth. With its unwavering commitment to equity and empowerment, LCCE continues to make a profound and lasting impact on the lives of those it serves. It has made a huge impact with the Lowell Hispanic and Latinx Festival in 2022 and 2023 in North Common Park, with live music, captivating cultural presentations, mesmerizing dances, and a delightful array of Latin American cuisine.

This year, we’re hoping for a mix of cultural and ethnic stews with American chilis – anything tasty can compete! We are looking for all kinds: traditional and totally off the wall, meat or vegetable based—you name it. No cost to enter; categories for restaurants and individuals.

We have special sponsorship packages for $100 to $1,000. Special perks for being a sponsor include VIP treatment for your organization, a banner at the event, and promotion on social media and on our mailing list.
Even if you aren’t from an organization, a donation would be a big help! After a year of Strategic Planning with our Advisory Committee, we’re kicking off a new era of DIY Lowell and raising funds to move our three-year plan forward to make sure DIY Lowell sticks around for the long term. Donations big and small will help us reach our goal.
