Idea:

Atlanta has tiny doors hidden in public spaces. Parks, buildings, museums. They’re fun to just stumble upon and I feel like it brings a sense of wonder to the community. It’s artistic and fun. Benefit:

If it becomes a larger phenomenon, people may be incentivized to seek out the doors and explore more of the city. Otherwise, it’s a small scale community art program and who doesn’t love that?

Location:

Citywide, Downtown / JAM.

Community Mural Project

Idea:

Invite the entire community to take part in painting a vibrant mural in our city! his would be a collaborative “ground floor” mural led by an artist but involve community for conceptualization and possibly painting. This would benefit the community by elevating the look & feel, inspiring creativity and community bonds.

Location:

Centralville, Citywide.

We are proud to participate in Mass Cultural Council's Card to Culture program in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Public Health's WIC Nutrition Program, the Massachusetts Health Connector, and hundreds of organizations by making cultural programming accessible to those for whom cost is a participation barrier.

Most DIY Lowell annual events are free, but often have a suggested donation. No donation is suggested for EBT, WIC, or ConnectorCare cardholders. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.

This program is supported in part by a grant from MassHumanities; in part by the City of Lowell; and in part by the following Comet-level sponsors:
